Turning Ring Customization Into a Real-Time 3D Experience
A browser-based 3D and AR jewelry configurator that lets shoppers change stones, metals, settings and engraving, with price and specs updating live in WebGL.

Business Need
Jewelry is one of the most personal and expensive things people buy, yet online it asks the customer to commit on faith. Product photos cannot show a specific combination of stone, metal, setting and engraving, so shoppers cannot picture their piece and hold back. For custom and made-to-order work the traditional path runs through weeks of consultations, CAD revisions and email back-and-forth, which loses buyers and ties up staff. Across the category, the result is high cart abandonment driven by visualization uncertainty alone.
Result
Todor3D delivers a browser-based 3D and AR jewelry configurator embedded directly in the store, where customers build the exact piece and watch design, price and specifications update in real time. Shoppers preview their own combination, try a ring on their hand in AR, and save or share a view-only link, so a custom inquiry becomes a self-serve, pre-approved order instead of weeks of back-and-forth. The same platform doubles as a content engine, generating marketing imagery from any configured model.
The Visualization Gap in Online Jewelry
A jewelry purchase is emotional, personal and high-value, and online the customer has to decide without ever seeing the exact piece. Catalog photos show one fixed version, not the combination a buyer has in mind, so questions pile up and the order stalls. For custom and made-to-order pieces the gap is widest: the traditional flow moves through consultation, blind CAD design, three to six rounds of revisions and only then production, stretching the decision over weeks and bleeding interest at every step.
Key problems:
- Can I see this ring in rose gold with an emerald instead, and on a smaller finger?
- If I switch to sapphire, will it clash with the gold? Photos don't show the real combo.
- I want engraving, but I can't tell if the text will look cramped at my size.
- Weeks of emails, calls and revisions per custom order, with buyers losing interest mid-process.
Real-Time Configuration in the Browser
We build the configurator on React Three Fiber and WebGL so it runs in the browser on desktop, tablet and mobile, with no plugins, and loads the jeweler's own 3D models. The customer adjusts the piece and sees design, price and specifications change instantly. Stones snap into the setting automatically, with the jeweler able to fine-tune position and rotation per model, and new models are analyzed to detect stones by name and geometry, which shortens the setup time for every SKU added to the catalog.
Key items:
- Stone shape: round, oval, princess, emerald, pear, heart and other standard cuts
- Center stone: diamond or colored gemstones such as sapphire, ruby and emerald
- Metal and color: gold, platinum, rose gold and silver, configurable per element
- Shank style: straight, split, tapered or twisted bands
- Engraving: custom text with control over font, size and alignment
Try-On, Sharing and Scale
Beyond configuration, the platform turns interest into orders and content. Shoppers try a configured ring on their own hand in AR through the device camera on iOS and Android, tracked to the finger as the hand moves. Any configuration can be saved and shared as a secure link or an embeddable iframe in a view-only mode that protects the jeweler's IP: the piece is interactive, but the underlying 3D model cannot be downloaded or exported. A simplified customer viewer mode exposes only the options the jeweler allows, premium presentation scenes place a single ring on a marble pedestal or in a box, and the platform can generate marketing photos and video from any configured model. Pre-built templates for rings, pendants and earrings, optimized model loading and cross-device rendering let the configurator go live in weeks and scale as the catalog grows.
What the business gets
Visual, self-serve buying changes the economics. Customers add stones, metals or engraving naturally during configuration, so upsells feel organic and order value rises. Photo-realistic 3D shows the exact piece before anyone pays, so "not what I expected" returns shrink. Decisions move from days of calls and emails to minutes of self-service, one configurator serves thousands of customers around the clock without extra staff, and the choices customers make become real data for new collections and marketing. The overall effect is a more modern, trustworthy brand experience in which customers feel confident about the price.
